Im a fiction lover sort of person,and this was my first book on "opinion writing" I was a bit sceptical on buying it, i mean fine, his tweets are hillarious, so I bought the book and I must say, I was not disapointed!!! I was on the floor more than half the time! Very witty book and at the same time, quite insightful and deep. 5 stars!! Very humorous page turner, I couldnt put it down!! This is one of the best books I've read in a long time,wish it was longer. Especially loved the tweets,think Khaya should write another book. Maybe an autobiography,would definitely buy it
The book deals with the humor side of the South African issues and the author shares his 'arrogant' opinion, whilst I appreciated the humor I felt that he could have gone deeper as the material is readily available. Waking up in SA is a story that can be written and enjoyed by many. I strongly believe that Khaya is a good writer and he could have done better.
Maybe my expectations were too high because I follow Khaya on Twitter and really enjoy his commentary - but found this book too lightweight. Showed no depth of thinking. It was amusing though - more like something one would expect a comedian to write.
I was keen to get the chance to read this book. I am happy to say I was not disappointed with it at all. On the contrary, I found what he had to say to be very wise(not to mention entertaining and humorous in parts where it should be and serious at times where it called for). I especially liked how he talked about South Africa specific issues-ones that I was not personally familiar with as I am from America. I think his voice is strong and worth listening to, and I'm curious to see if there will be a second book in the future.
